INCUBUS – The Art of Grindesign by Robert Borbas

Following the huge success of 10 Years of Grindesign – one of the bestselling titles in the Great Books on the Art of Tattooing series, released in 2020 and sold out within months – INCUBUS marks the long-awaited return of Robert Borbss, also known as Grindesign, with a brand-new publishing project. This latest volume gathers five years of work by the renowned Hungarian artist, celebrated for his unmistakable dark style and horror-infused atmospheres.

With over 285 pages including linework, sketches, and graphic imagery – many of which have become iconic album covers for metal bands – INCUBUS delves into the world of classic subjects such as demons, skulls, crosses, goats, and irreverent religious iconography. These are joined by the evil spirits that define his visual language and bring to life his very own Lidérc – his nightmare.

This comprehensive documentation spans his most recent creative phase and includes behind-the-scenes glimpses of his work process, from raw sketches to finished outlines. The volume also features a retrospective section showcasing his earliest pieces, tracing the evolution of Grindesign from its origins to the present day.

A “silent diary”, as the artist himself describes it – an intimate and visual narration of existential unease, told through drawings.
